Memorial Day Week

Next »

May 23rd through 29th, 2016

Last week seemed more like July rather than May. The hills were exploding in leaves, the air temperatures pushed close to 80 F and the lake temperature...well...it is only May. The lake started last week at 64℉. By the weekend the water was 67℉. That's fine for commercial swimming (pier placement, lift leveling, raft deployment) but not so much for casual swimming due to all the blue skin and hypothermia. And there's more lake after last week. We got another three quarters of an inch after this image, so the lake should be up at least two inches plus any stuff we get from the watershed. Huzzah! All that water is as crystal clear as ever. The bugs are back! Both the fish eating kind (which are technically not bugs) and the bitey kind (ticks, mosquitoes, Deer Flys, etc). If you are coming up to the northwoods anytime soon, bring bug repellent. Trillium season is over. It'll be back in about 48 weeks. Mowing season is upon us. All the rain and heat is conspiring with the grass to make mowing an almost twice a week event. Still, it beats the hell out of snow blowing/shoveling season. Cocktail season is also upon us. This is a new one called a &quotLucerne". Ask for it by name! The bar was opened on both Friday and Saturday. Technically Saturday's bar night spilled into Sunday. There was more than one amaze-ball display of Bailey's Comets. The Summer vacation season, if not Summer itself, is classically defined as the time between Memorial Day Weekend and Labor Day Weekend. Now is the time for all good men and women of stout body and joyous heart to grab hold of a tow rope (both literally and metaphorically) and let the boat pull you up. There's more lake level raising rain in the forecast for next week. That should push Lake Lucerne close to the nail by the weekend. Yay!

-Nemo, skiing away buffet weight one run at a time.
