Real Winter

January 4th through 10th, 2016

Lake Lucerne
This Winter has been pretty mild. That changed late last week.
Lake Lucerne
The lake was still frozen last Tuesday. Except for us, there was nobody at the poorly plowed boat landing.
Lake Lucerne
There has been some talk on the North end of the lake (mostly me) that, with the huge increases we've seen in the lake depth this year, the islands may be below the lake. Our mission at the South end of the lake was to see if the islands were still above water.
Lake Lucerne
Yup, still there.
Lake Lucerne
All that ice is about 6 inches thick.
Lake Lucerne
Sane snowmobilers that don't want the first swim of the year are gonna wait for a few more inches before running the lake.
Lake Lucerne
The condition of Knott Lane is pretty much the same as the week before, only colder.
Lake Lucerne
Late last week, the cold arrived. It's usually here before Christmas, but Fed-Ex has had issues during the holidays this year and it arrived late. We are saving a snowball for the guy that signed for it. Still, the cold was not unexpected. The name of the second of the Four Horsemen of the Snowpocalypse is January after all. If you are coming up here, bring a hat.
