Ice-In!

December 28th, 2015 through January 3rd, 2016

Lake Lucerne
Ice-In Week! It was about time. Ice began to grow on Monday and "berg up" the mostly open water. You might have also noticed that the weekly summary page is a slide show. The old format was fun and served us well, but was also dated and did not take advantage of new technologies.
Lake Lucerne
This was the last week to remove piers from the lake without an ice spud. Here's hoping for a gentle ice-out.
Lake Lucerne
Early in the week, there was snow. The white stuff had a medium water content, was just under 8 inches to over 9 inches depending on where you measured it, and made snowmobile types very happy.
Lake Lucerne
It was clear on Tuesday that the lake ice had established itself around the islands north to the bay in front of Water's Edge.
Lake Lucerne
It was cold on Tuesday night. By Wednesday, the ice grew to cover over half of the lake.
Lake Lucerne
By Thursday it was all over. Still, we wouldn't walk on it for a while.
Lake Lucerne
It was a pleasantly surprising task to register the knottlane drones. Yay.

The condition of Knott Lane has been better. Better bring your boots.
Lake Lucerne
With all the snow, ATVs had their Winter boots put on and laced up.

Lake Lucerne's ice went in on Thursday, December 31st. Congratulations to the winners of this year's ice-in contest! Your checks and special prize packages are in the mail. This marks the latest ice-in we have ever witnessed. Despite this late calendar hour, there should be plenty of ice for the 25th Annual Lake Lucerne Bottle Rocket War in just over 4 weeks (Saturday, January 30th). As always, you're invited.
