The Week That Ended With Footstock
August 18th through 24th

It rained a lot last week. It was cooler, too. It no longer felt like Summer and yet it did not feel like Fall. Clearly, the minor, melancholy season of Fummer is upon us.

When the sun was out, construction guys were scurrying about preparing to bury electrical lines. Some of their machines were pretty cool. To be honest, they were also out when the sun was not.

The rain did eventually stop, leaving a deeper and flat lake in its wake.

The lake area got about 2.9 inches plus another few tenths of an inch after this picture was taken. Huzzah!

The last ski show of the Summer missed the rain. We'd like to congratulate the team on a great season and hope to see them all back next year.

The show had a more Canadiany feel to it with the addition of "special friend of the show" Wayne King. In addition to being a world class barefooter, Mr. King is one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet.

There seems to be more eagles floating around the sky these days.

Friday's splendid sunset was followed by a short bar night. Many wanted to be rested before Footstock.

The opening of Footstock 2015 was warm and windy. The warm was welcome.

The drone had a hard time fighting the 15 to 25 mph winds. It was not used as much as hoped.
It would be great if all sports showed the good humor, warmth, and sportsmanship that is the rule rather than the exception at Footstock. Of course, Footstock is also where happiness is seeing an empty handle bopping around next to you.
It's hard to root for or against any of these guys. They're all so personable and friendly. But we do love a good crash as long as nobody gets hurt.

This was the first year, to our knowledge, that the event was live cast over the internet. Cameras in the boats transmitted images to the shore where they were shot out to the world. Next year we'll let you know that before the event. Sorry.

Seeing this image brings many thoughts to mind. For me, the foremost is, "Why was I taking this picture instead of skiing?". It is a mystery. It's forecast to get cooler before it gets warmer. If the prediction holds, the lake temperature will drop below the 70℉ mark. Such lake temperatures can induce a bout of Tourette's in swimmers that's usually only seen on the golf course. Speaking of which, the Knott Lane Open is less than two weeks away (Sunday, September 6th, email for tee times). I'll get a link on the front page to a PDF with all the particulars.
