All Good Things...
August 4th through 10th   


Mostly cloudy and cooler with chances of rain. The July and early August streak of heat ended last week. Oh well, we needed to catch our breath and the lake needed the rain.


The sun did peak out of the clouds during the most excellent Ski Show on Wednesday. Then it set. The erosion of evening light is one of those August things that irks us.

The lake temperature dropped below 74F and there was a weird water bug just to the left of the 30 and 20 marks.


It rained a few days last week. The last storm totaled about 0.7 inches.
The lake needs more rain if it is to hold onto the gains it's made this year. Even with all the wet last week, the lake fell a fraction of an inch.
The dry watershed seems to be the reason we did not see better gains. The creek that flows into the lake on the north end is currently not flowing so much. The rain has dampened it though.

The sugarmen have enjoyed the cooler air and seemed to have doubled their efforts mining wood for next year's maple syrup season.

 During last week's few periods of sun and windlessness, drones flew outside and inside the bar. They took pictures and pestered the thirsty respectively.

 Hardwood lake is almost figure 8 shaped when viewed at this angle. Calm, too. We're looking to get a picture or two of Wabikon, Riley, and the channel that connects them next.


Summers can be like books. There are some books of which the backs and covers are by far the best parts. Other books can be a fantastic read except for one bad chapter. Last week's chapter of Summer 2015 was weak. Until last weak, this Summer had been so hot and enjoyable. Last weak's cool and rain had us all suffering stronger than during any other week this Summer, and has taught us to understand what Summer can be. Summer 2015 has been bent and broken, but - I hope - into a better shape. Going forward, it looks like the hot is going to rally and the Perseid meteor shower will enjoy clear nights during its peak on Monday. August 11th. Huzzah!
