Lake Lucerne
Early last week it was sunny. The warmth of the light had us thinking spring. Foolish us.
Lake Lucerne
Twenty four hours later the temperature dropped, the wind picked up, and sub-zero snow devils danced on the lake from North to South. We stopped thinking of Spring.

Perhaps due to sub-zeroness, except for us, the slopes at Ski Brule were empty much of the day. The back runs were open , unlike last week. We have been since informed by the staff at Brule that logging was not to blame for the back's shut-down last week, but rather trees blowing over near/onto the lift.
Lake Lucerne
Knott Lane is snowy, but the traction isn't too bad.

The southern fort complex is showing off some impressive limbo skills.
Lake Lucerne
How low can you go?

The bar was opened last Saturday. Photos were bombed. Alien Secretions were consumed.
Lake Lucerne
The Aliens were eventually chased off using superior firepower driven by newly acquired 8-bit technology.
Lake Lucerne
Late last week the wind died and the sun came out so we populated the sky over the lake.
Lake Lucerne
The landing was very controlled and smooth until the rotors were shut down and the snow under the back of the craft gave way. There was some tension but no damage.
Lake Lucerne
Between take off and the rather inauspicious landing we took some pictures of the lake.
Lake Lucerne
Devils Lake was confirmed frozen as was Wabikon in the distance.
Lake Lucerne
Metonga is also still ice covered.
Lake Lucerne
A small ice rink sprung up in front of the old Cabin 6. There was hockey.

Around midweek, when we were deeper in a Seasonal hole than we have been at any other time this year, we got the unsettling feeling that Winter was looking down at us and saying,"It puts the layers on the skin, else it gets the snow again". We added a few more layers of clothes (leaving open a small port in the top of the front to pour the occasional cocktail in.) It's predicted to snow in the next few days underscoring that Winter is not to be trusted. But that's okay because the cold solstice's days are numbered. There is already some talk of the 2015 maple syruping season and long range forecasts contain temperatures above freezing. Take that Winter, you big jerk.

-Nemo prefers sunny and 80°F to watching the snow devils dance.
