The weather over this past week was a heterogeneous mixture of the ultra fantastic and the much needed wet. The water temperature is holding in the low 70s°F and the lake level is going up due, in no small part, to the one and a half inches of rain over the weekend.
Before the rain, when the sky was blue and the water flat, came the last ski show of the year.
I got to ride along in the triple rig for the second time this year. There were several acts that I got to ride for, but my main task was to record the first bare foot pyramid of the year.
I was told by insiders to watch the spray after the base kicks off their skis. If you can see their legs, the boat speed is about right. If all you can see is their heads, the boat is a little slow.
It was also wet and muddy. A few vehicles slid into the pond, a few of the trucks sent to rescue stuck racers needed rescue. After one or two laps, red, yellow and blue trucks took on a mud brown sameness.
It was fun. A special thank you to Bucky and Candy for inviting us and getting us into their box to see all the mud and loud.
During the second day of the Brush Run, the Knott Lane Open was held at the Nicolet Country Club. There was much less mud and loud than back at the race and two under par took the team trophies.
The after party was great. A special thanks to everybody for coming and bringing magnificent food and drink. Well after sunset, there were transits of the Bailey's comet, visits of the green fairy and a few hauntings of shots too unspeakably vile to mention. It was past midnight before the party ended.
I'd like to place an order for a few more weeks like this. Judging from the boats, lifts and piers still in the water, other lake residents may have also filled out forms for encores of this week. I just pray that the processing of these requisitions does not hit some sort of snag; like a lost form, clerical error, or early Winter. A relatively warm, wet September and October is just what the lake needs.
