| Even with a few skiers willing and fewer boats in, an angry lake repelled all but surfers. By the weekend it calmed down a bit and there was footing. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| It was that time of the year. Most of the piers and lifts that started last week in the water were coaxed, pulled, lifted and dragged from an increasingly cold Lake Lucerne. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Most of the leaves are on the ground. A few hangers-on still decorate the maples. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| On Saturday, it was time for the annual Lake Lucerne Pumpkin Carving event. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| By 10:00 PM there were 13 well carved orange balls glowing on the bar's deck. All were skillfully sculpted and stayed lit until after midnight. | The post carving celebration included food, a record 12 Bailey's comets and an interesting adult beverage flown in all the way from Italy. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Someone blabbed. Do squirrels browse websites? The plan was to use carefully drilled holes filled with peanut butter to entice local squirrels to carve my pumpkin for me. Somehow my furry little enemies learned of the plan and left the food untouched for almost a week. On Saturday, I connected the holes with a small knife, finishing it myself. I'm thinking brunswick stew for deer hunting week. Maybe a double batch! The week had less rain than squirrel bites on a pumpkin (none). Precipitation is predicted for much of next week. With the lake almost boatless, a load of rain would not interfere much with any fishing or skiing. Google is sending us some ad banner money just in time for the 2013 Lake Lucerne Ice-In contest, I'll have it coded and posted in the next few weeks. -Nemo has no love for lazy squirrels Previous Next |
