Flat Water Week

Next »

August 12th through 19th, 2013

The water was flat and the sky mostly blue this week. We'll take a flat lake anytime, but a few rain clouds would have been nice. We didn't get any measureable amount of rain this week. The moon was only a thin crescent early in the week. That was good. A clear night and setting sliver of a moon made for a great evening to watch the tail end of the Perseid meteor shower. Over 2 dozen and the ISS were spotted in about an hour. Leaves and flowers are starting to get their late Summer/early Fall on. Birds seem to be hitting the feeders a bit harder. Flat and falling. Flat we like. Falling not so much. The lake level is still way up since ice-out but we really need rain to cement in those gains. Much warmer weather next week should bring thunderstorms to the area and erase both the flat and the falling. The rain would be more than welcome but the departing of the wavelessness would be unfortunate. Footstock is next weekend. When adding 40 mile per hour foot to water, waves are problematic. Albeit entertaining for those who watch, but painful for those suffering at the end of a tow rope.

-Nemo prefers his lake still, not stirred.
