Spring was putting on an extended version of Hamlet this week. Early in the week Spring was definitely in the "To Be" column. Temperatures were in the upper 70's°F and the area was greening up.

And we got some rain! We need more but there's more coming

Later in the week, Spring was "Not To Be". It was agreed by all that we prefer our precipitation in the form of rain this time of year. Snow is so last month.

The Winter snow melt that filled streams and creeks has been supplanted by Spring snow melt (sigh) and rain. The torrents are more tame, but they are still flowing.

The lake level is up over 11 inches from ice-in! As the lake receded over the last few years, pier sections were added. Evidence of the rising water can be seen as those additional pier sections are being swamped.

Officially, ice-out occured on Tuesday, May 7th at 2:00 PM. Much later than is normal. A few days later, the pontoon crane guys were putting in lifts and piers all along the shore.

That rising water is not warm. Forty six degrees Fahrenheit does not a swimmer's paradise make.

By Sunday, Spring was "To Be" again. The trillium are starting to push through the forest floor. Soon there will be trilliums and trilliums of 'em.

Spring looks, sounds and smells "To Be". It just doesn't really feel "To Be" (i.e. "Not To Be"). Maybe that's because it's currently 30°F or because of small patches of snow in the shadows. It should start to feel more like Spring this coming week. Temperatures are supposed to be in the mid 70's°F and there is rain, not snow, predicted. Some of the rain may be in the form of thunderstorms, those wonderful displays of nature that can include inches of rain. Such storms, in conjunction with the saturated ground, will mean Lake Lucerne should be even higher next week!<br><br><br>-Nemo's not swimming up the north end.
