Spring!

April 29th through May 5th, 2013

Seasonal weather finally arrived! This has been the coldest April ever up here. The still pretty thick ice on the lake would combine with the rain we got this week to form a low level fog. By mid week the ice sheet began to move. Not much and not quickly, but it was the start of the end of the ice. The last bucket and sap was pulled and poured from the woods on Monday. The last of the buckets were washed. The last of the sap was boiled down to syrup. The last canning occurred on Wednesday. As mentioned before,Wabikon is open. Silver lake in Laona opened up a day later. Nicolet Country Club is also open sans flags. As is common for this time of Spring, but has been uncommon for the last few years, the lake area has been wet. Rain seems to be a daily thing. The bit of snow still melting with the rain is pushing inflows up to levels rarely seen. The lake level is going up. I'll get a measurement as soon as the ice comes off. Don't be fooled by water around the edges or ice-out on other lakes. The ice covering Lake Lucerne is going to be around for a few more days. It's possible that ice-out may not happen until next week. The Lake is up! So much so that the pier with the nail had to be temporarily moved to prevent ice damage. I'll get it back the day after ice-out and get a level check. Some are reporting the lake up a foot or more since last December. Yay!

-Nemo suggusted an ice auger for opening day.
