Snowblowing, Forestry and Golf Weekend

January 2nd through 5th, 2013

Lake Lucerne
A scheduled forestry guy meeting presented a free ride to, a short stay at and a ride back from the northwoods. Snow and lake ice checks ensued. Some sunsets were great.
Lake Lucerne
A slush layer that had formerly been on the lake had frozen. Where there was a light covering of snow, the footing was fine but where the wind had exposed the head bonking, knee twisting, treacherous ice, the footing was not so good. Despite the hazards, a hole was made to check the lake ice thickness.
Lake Lucerne
On January 4th, the ice was 6.25 inches thick.
Lake Lucerne
It's become cliche, but the water under the ice can only be described as "crystal clear".
Lake Lucerne
We had a 2:00 tee time for some early season lake golf. We were late. One of our twosome got caught up in some light tree trimming.
Lake Lucerne
Course conditions were good on the ATV made, 4 hole course.
Lake Lucerne
The greens (whites?) could have used a good rolling, but were otherwise passable.
Lake Lucerne
Two rounds later it was time to head back to the club house and thaw out.
Lake Lucerne
Plenty of ice but not much snow on the lake. There was much snow on the bar's driveway. It was as if the winds picked up the snow from the lake and dumped it on the North shore. The lack of snow and a "dry socket" in one of the North's troopers, has pushed the 22nd Annual Lake Lucerne Bottle Rocket War forward to February 2nd. Looking at the calendar, other scheduled events may push it back to the 9th. If the date changes, you'll be the first to know. In between now and then, weekly updates will be posted every Monday and "Special Features" later in the week or double your money back. Anybody get a snow measurement on "Carol" (around December 27th)? It looked to be about 3 inches.
