Labor Day Weekend

September 1st through 5th, 2011

Lake Lucerne
The weather all weekend was cloudy and seasonably cool, but the sunsets were great.
Lake Lucerne
And there was rain! It came, not in one big storm, but rather in a series of smaller weather events.
Lake Lucerne
By mid-weekend we had about 0.6 inches.
Lake Lucerne
Another 0.5 inches fell during the last half of the weekend. That's 1.1 inches, not too shabby but we need more.
Lake Lucerne
In between the rain drops, the Knottlane Open was held at NCC on Sunday. The rain did not help. Neither did the wind that gusted to over 20 mph.
Lake Lucerne
The after party at the bar was well attended. Thanks to all for coming over and saying "Hi". The food was good too.
Lake Lucerne
There were birthday shots as the evening progressed. Some were garnished with flames.
Lake Lucerne
Others had more traditional trim. There was also maple syrup wine and beer (Hamm's mostly). The crowd thinned after seven with the more kraeusened guests tottering home just after eight.
Lake Lucerne
This weekend is when most boats leave the lake until next Spring. The lake level is still good enough at the landing but, in addition to a trailer and a hitch, this year you will need a) Four wheel drive and b) To engage the four wheel drive. Easy peasy lemon squeezy.
Lake Lucerne
With the boats slumbering on the shore, it's time to take out the lifts. Pulling the lifts from the water can be many things but easy peasy lemon squeezy it is not. We managed to wrestle our steel and aluminum contraption on to land with only a single hand smushing. (Hi Craig! How's the hand?).
Lake Lucerne
The air was at 40°F Labor day morning. The water temperature was 72°F, down from 75°F just two days earlier. You don't have to look hard to spot color in the maples. The kickoff for the NFL season is Thursday. Fall is clearly pulling up the driveway and setting the parking brake. We entered September with a 1.1 inch of rain weekend but the forecast calls for substantially less for the next 10 days. Hope the weather sites are wrong.
