Longest Week of the Year

June 14th through 24th, 2007

Lake Lucerne
We left late Thursday. The sun was setting on the tornado damage north of Mountain and we were 45 minutes from the shrinking shores of Lake Lucerne.
Lake Lucerne
The lake did get some much needed rain last week. The lake level went up 2 inches to -11 inches wrt the nail. It was down an inch by the time we left. We need more rain.
Lake Lucerne
The sunset after the rain on Monday was quite nice.
Lake Lucerne
The moon grew bigger and brighter all week.
Lake Lucerne
An eagle has been hunting the north end of the lake all spring. This big bird frequently sits in a pine overlooking our deck and seems to be watching us which makes me wonder: Is it safe to be losing weight on the north end? It would truly be ironic to be losing weight to live longer only to get an obit that reads "carried of by an eagle while enjoying the northwoods."
Lake Lucerne
Kneeboarding and skiing season is here. There seems to be fewer boats on the lake than past years and the time that the boats are pulling seems shorter. Are high fuel costs making no wake zone rules superfluous? Maybe. Still, watch for the fireworks on June 28 when no-wake gets its public hearing.

Late spring flowers and other plants are peaking. The color blue is well represented..
Lake Lucerne
As is yellow.

You can't swing a dead cat without hitting one of these.
Lake Lucerne
And there are even more ferns.
Lake Lucerne
The east most construction on the north end is coming along.

The western house seems to be moving faster. The deck bud has grown into a covered room and sprouted it's own deck. A western driveway has appeared.

I cleaned some webs off the webcam and it seemed happier for the attention. As for giving the webcam a name, many wonderful sugestions were sent to me. It was pointed out that it may cause some confusion to new people to the site to refer to it as Bob or #5, so for now I'll continue to call it the webcam.
Lake Lucerne
Much wood was collected for the March 2008 sapping season.

More rain is expected after this next weekend. We need about 15 inches. We also need to quit slicing balls off the 5th tee into hwy 8. It adds a stroke to our scores and annoys the drivers. We'll be back this weekend to check the lake level and the mysterious crop circles that have appeared on the north end.
Special Mysterious Crop Circle Section

Lake Lucerne
Mysterious crop circles may be a bit over the top. They are really more like cryptic lawn circles. Could it be a message from some supernatural entity? Could it be the landing site of some alien spacecraft? Could it be two people, who are waiting for their lawn tractor's drive belt to be replaced, fooling around with a rope and a push mower? We may never know. Well, we do know, but we're not telling.
