St Patrick's Day Weekend

There was enough sun left in the sky when we arrived to get in a quick nine holes had the golf course been open. We talked to the new manager at the Nicolet Country Club on Saturday. There's a chance that the course could be open by Easter.

There was plenty of light to check the ice thickness. A proxy driller was called in at the one foot mark.

19 inches of very solid ice is thick, but in past years it has been thicker at this time of year. Watch for an early ice-out.

The time was reset on the webcam. The camera survived the winter well and has been active for one year this March.

The clouds cleared out Friday evening. With no moon, the stars dominated the sky except for the west which was lit by a very bright planet Venus

Frost covered the landscape on Saturday morning. The ice in this close up of some deck boards was baked off soon after by the surprisingly warm sun.

Construction has started on the north end. An area at Timber Shores was cleared of timber and foundations are set.

With such mild weather, I would guess that the stuff that goes on the top of these substructures will be up by Easter.

Trees were tapped and sap was collected. A porky was stalked, but the pointy little beastie eluded all.

Lake golf was treacherous. With most of the snow gone the surface was very slick. On the plus side, we did get some great roll.

It was the last weekend in winter, but it felt like spring. There could be a good smelt run on the lake this year.
