Altus- Imago II Weekend

July 15th through 17th, 2005

Lake Lucerne
We came up Friday, golfed and then hit the sheets for we needed to get up early to inflate balloons on Saturday (the wind was prophesied to be nil in the early morn)
Lake Lucerne
The morning was largely windless and balloons were filled. Only two of the 150+ were judged feral and escaped to the U.P.
Lake Lucerne
The wind started a bit despite the prophesy but the camera reached unheard of heights.
Lake Lucerne
Paddle boats were called in to pull the project south and then allow it to drift north in an effort to push the view even higher.
Lake Lucerne
With the control lines aboard, the vessels were sent south.
Lake Lucerne
A bit more height was gained in addition to a "soaker".
Lake Lucerne
After a while, the camera was determined to be out of film and the craft was lowered to Terra (OK, no more Latin for another 10 months.)
Lake Lucerne
Later that day, Ed & Maren invited a bunch of people to their place for authentic New Orlean's cuisine minus the heat. The food was very tasty and the view was great.
Lake Lucerne
The lite wind made good water for kneeboarding.
Lake Lucerne
...and skiing.
Lake Lucerne
...and crashing. Not much of a skip here but plenty of splash. I'd give it a 6.7.
Lake Lucerne
Rafto was not played. Even after a good taunting
Lake Lucerne
The old boat about 30 feet from our shore has crossed from "needs work" to "artifact".
Lake Lucerne
Raft anchors are settling into the soft bottom and holding better as a result.
Lake Lucerne
Cribs are getting there summer coat of algae. The water temperature on the the surface was over 80°F all weekend. I don't ever remember it being this warm.
Lake Lucerne
Large schools of panfish are on the cribs also. There is a thermocline at about 14 feet where the water drops to around 65°F. There should be another deeper, but we went diving without tanks and didn't get much further down.
Lake Lucerne
Many walleye have been spotted feeding on the north end along with bass and a few trout.
Lake Lucerne
The sun was brutal all weekend. The daytime air temps approached 100°F and the nights were well above 60°F.
Lake Lucerne
We will be back next weekend for a week. The webcam is still waiting for a part. I think it's being walked here from Japan. Starting the 22nd, I'll be posting daily updates as long as our strength holds out. It's been a long, hot summer.
