4th of July Weekend

June 30th through July 4th, 2005

Lake Lucerne
We made it up with the clouds on Friday. Saturday morning was to be calm. Perfect for balloon born cameras.
Lake Lucerne
Saturday morning started off wind-free as the lake gave up it's heat after a cool night.
Lake Lucerne
Balloon construction took about an hour.
Lake Lucerne
190 balloons later, we were ready. Only 11 balloons escaped during the inflating process.
Lake Lucerne
Just as the camera snapped its first test picture, the wind started up.
Lake Lucerne
A steady 7 to 9 mph wind held the camera down under 100 feet.
Lake Lucerne
The pictures from that height were still interesting.
Lake Lucerne
We are picking up the helium tonight for another try during the weekend of July 8th.
Lake Lucerne
Despite the wind troubles the entire episode went rather smoothly.
Lake Lucerne
Fireworks on the 3rd lit the north end of the lake late into the night.
Lake Lucerne
Earlier in the day the boat parade braved high seas in their 8 boat tour of the lake.
Lake Lucerne
Conflict broke out along the parade route as water balloons, intended for defense from hostile boat parade types, were turned on spectators. The "Great Balloon War of '05" will be remembered as a long and entertaining tussle.
Lake Lucerne
The lake flattened out by Monday to the delight of skiers.
Lake Lucerne
Some (me) only like to watch skiing for the crashes.
Lake Lucerne
We dove the north end. Big bluegills are on the cribs and smallmouth bass are all over the place.
Lake Lucerne
Treasures pulled from the deep included some litter, golfballs, and an old 1 quart milk bottle.
Lake Lucerne
We'll be back next week. The webcam is being serviced by toshiba repair services. I hope to have it back online in a week or so. The internet hot spot on the north end of the lake is going to get bigger soon (5000+ feet!). If you are going to use it, try not to abuse it.
