November 29th through 30th, 2002

By Saturday any trace of ice had all but disappeared. The water was close to a phase change though (33.9°F) and the air was cold. 36 hours after this picture the lake was entirely frozen over. Anything protruding near the shore did have a halo of ice. There was no snow on Friday but by Saturday a trace was on the ground. The ice that had extended 10 meters from the shore was gone. A flock of birds were frequenting the north shore. At first we thought they might be a gathering of loons but they turned out to be some sort of diving duck. There were no loons that we saw. Not even Dean showed up. You could feel that the lake was going to be covered with ice soon. We'd love to have seen it go, but work called and we had to go back

-Nemo
