Sixty Six Seconds to the Top

June 16th through 25th, 2000

It has been a wet and cool week. The water temperature never went above 69°F and the wind would just not stop. There was also a rainbow. The new car hole got metal roofed. Given all the rain, it was quite timely. The young and underfoot were bopping around the north end of Lucerne on both the last weekend in Spring and the first in Summer. One had learned to do cartwheels and that became the travel mode of choice to move from one area to another. Slingshots were discovered and the terror alert for fishermen and passing skiers on the north end went to eleven. The little house on the top of the fire tower at Sugarbush Hill was open! That made the usually fantastic view 4 feet better. Krispa requested that we time him on his trek to the top. We did. He made it to the little room in 66 seconds and thus started a race to the top for all subsequent visits. We camped on that island the last time we were here. This time we only viewed it from afar. There was much swimming, diving, Rafto, and skiing this week despite the cool weather and water. There was also golf. I'd never played the game before, but was pretty sure which end of the club to hold. Mrs Nemo won our golf round with a 68 to my 71 and Krispa's 95. These would have been good scores for the entire 18 holes at the Nicolet Counrty Club. We only did the front 9. None of us will be signing up for the pro tour any time soon, but we did complete the round in under 2 hours. We've been told it's okay to stink at golf, just don't stink slowly.

-Nemo: Rafto contender, bad golfer.
