The Fall of the Throne
April 28th through 30th, 2000

The last of the ice left the lake 26 days ago. Leaves and swim-able water are about 6 weeks away. Lake Lucerne is in the between time. It is not a good time for skiing, swimming, or Rafto, but it's a great time to take care of light Spring tasks.

The first task was to keep the dog from getting under foot. A local seven year old was more than up to the challenge.

With the dog restrained, the old car hole was removed and trees dropped to make room for a new, larger car hole. We were told that some of the larger trees made good balance beams.

The throne room was gone, but the throne remained. For a while. It had served us well for decades, but the complaints were adding up. Many of the gripes centered around wild life living in the old car hole (porcupines) and wild dogs and bears that roam Knott Lane on occasion. Much time was lost fretting about such things until pressure over came fear.

The throne is gone. Reasons for the overthrow were many. Royal interference with the law, freedom from taxation by Royal prerogative, freedom to petition the King, freedom to elect members of Parliament without interference from the Sovereign, but mostly indoor plumbing. The new car hole (sans throne room) should be up in a few weeks. The lake level remains high. Boats and lifts will be going in over the next few weeks.
