Last week went average. The first two weeks in September had record cold. After that the lake area got a lot of above average pleasantness. Then came last week with its frosty mornings and a few days not making it to 50°F. If you were planning another ski run, that ship has sailed. Also sailing is pretty much out, too.
With each passing day, the cold nights were lit more and more by a waxing moon.
With thick frost on the ground most mornings, it was deemed time to pull the last of the piers from the increasingly un-warm water.
With the lake level falling fast, there was talk among the men of leaving some sections in with the hope the lake would retreat from under them (lazy men). Ultimately, they ended up pulling in every part.
Lucerne lost four inches during October. The current lake level is at the exact same point it was last year at 12.5 inches above the nail. It's nice to have a little more beach, but for those of us that lived through the low levels of 2010 and 2013, it causes a bit of dyspepsia. We could use a little more rain and a wet winter. The code monkeys failed to get this year's ice-in contest up last week. Bad monkeys! Promises of bananas and threats of floggings will motivate them to get it posted this coming week.
