Summer Bonus Period

Last week felt like a cool summer period, but with a much earlier sunset. Highs were in the upper 60s°F or low 70s°F and the lake temperature was holding at around 65°F. It's swimmable and skiable, but a campfire is required to drive off the post water play shivers.

The week started with around 10% of the trees being in full color.

By the weekend, the color was closer to 50%.

The first trees to turn were red and orange, this last batch is closer to yellow and brown.

There were some reds last week, but they were not really trees.

There was not much rain last week, but many mornings were covered with a heavy dew that would wet up shoes well into noon.

The lake level is dropping a little. Same with the water hazards at the NCC.

Some of the trees at the NCC are getting a little post peaky.

The annual late season sanding of the greens was finished by the weekend. Putting was more interesting for several days.

The early sunsets have introduced a new "Blinding Hazard" on the 5th hole at Nicolet. If you're going out after 4:00 PM and the sky is blue, bring sunglasses, or better yet a welding helmet.

There were also a few ski runs, campfires, and well crafted cocktails around the lake last week. Normally the shorter days are viewed with eyes that foresee the snowy doom that is to come. But lately, the increasingly early sunsets are more of a blessing than a curse. If the sunlight continued for another few hours, many would not be able to keep pace with the warm weather. If this warm period continues, it'll be hard for many of the men to keep pace with these shorter, more fun sized days.
