	January 6th through 12th, 2025

As bad as Deep Winter can be, the lake area has gotten off pretty easy so far. The single digit lows (°F) and 20 something highs (again °F) of last week forced hats on heads for those brave enough to journey outdoors, but facemasks, goggles, and heat packs were deemed optional.

The deer shaped suet feeder hung on Knott Lane is a big hit with the tiny feathered crowd.

The turkeys on the north end of the lake have started a disturbing new trend of perching on deck rails so they can look you in the eye while demanding tribute.

As if their sheer numbers were not intimidating enough.

The start of the week continued the snowless trend. The dryness, wind, and sand produced rare beach circles around detritus that was anchored on one end.

Some were bigger than others, but we enjoyed them all.

As clouds moved in during the evening, the sky would suddenly erupt in color.

This time of year, the sun sets fast. The color would fade to gray in under 5 minutes.

We got a few inches of snow near and on the weekend. Snowshoes are still not needed to traverse the tapping fields.

West Shore Drive has a very January like feel.

Knott Lane is even more January.

Just after sunset on Sunday, a forecasted dusting of snow became more of an event than light flurries.

All the wee snow events of the weekend have added up to covered lawns and a snowmobile ready lake. Building forts for the coming annual (34th!) Lake Lucerne bottle rocket war is now a local issue and will not require shipping in Canadian snow. Huzzah! With all the snow and football on the weekend, we forgot to check the lake ice. It's got to be around 8 inches thick, but we'll find out for sure soon.<br><br><br>-Nemo is enjoying this milder Deep Winter.
