Autumnal Continuing Resolution

November 6th through 12th, 2023

Lake Lucerne
The powers that control such things apparently passed a continuing resolution for Fall. With above 32°F highs, the light frosts in the mornings have not yet froze up the ground. There's even been talk among the men of another lawn mowing before the end of the year.

Local squirrels have been celebrating the extension of autumn with a burst of frantic activity.
Lake Lucerne
When not behaving like 3 year olds that just drank their fill of heavily sugared espresso, they hide behind stuff to mask their trek to the bird feeder. They got the stillness thing down. The camouflage thing, not so much..
Lake Lucerne
Eventually they give up on any act of sneakiness and raid the feeder until it's empty.
Lake Lucerne
The eagles got more active last week, too.
Lake Lucerne
There was a bit of wind during most days, but later in the afternoon, the winds would die down and the lake would flatten.
Lake Lucerne
A few sunsets were pretty good, but many were covered with clouds. Both the sunny and the cloudy types came way too early.
Lake Lucerne
The lake temperature is holding around a not so toasty 45°F. Fall may still be here, but voluntary swimming season is long over.
Lake Lucerne
Some around the lake are taking advantage of the lack of snow and ice by doing some late season construction.

Looking good guys!

Later in the week, the milkweed pods started to burst.

On Saturday night, the sky also started to burst. Total accumulation was around an inch. Sunday was warm enough to melt most of it.

During a bonus summer period, there's much doings. Swimming, skiing, and Rafto season extentions put pressure on the ibuprofen and energy drink supplies. An extended fall is filled with not-doings. There's no snow shoveling, no swimming, and no shivering (maybe some light shivering). Even Squirrel Ball was denied us last week; the balls didn't want to play. This lack of events could be a traumatic experience for the kinetic, but it's also a delightful time to catch your breath and relax before the coming, and somewhat taxing, winter events.
