Pre-Memorial Day Week

May 22nd through 28th, 2023

Lake Lucerne
Upon review, last week was cooler than remembered. The fantastic finish (if you like your summers hot) baked away from our memories the earlier highs in the low 60s°F and the 2 or 3 mornings that were accompanied by frost.

There were also some clouds earlier in the week. By Memorial Day weekend, the sky was mostly blue, the air was near 80°F, and the lake swimmable without too much hypothermia.

The trillium are still plentiful in just about every crack and crevice around the lake.

Though more and more are starting to show their age.

These are also around and not showing any signs of leaving.

The bees seem happy about these patches of yellow.

The bar's squirrels seem a little more crotchety than normal.

A new visitor to the bar may be the cause. Our guess is that the mice aren't thrilled either, but it's been a while since we've seen one to ask.

On the weekend, the sky was sunny, the air grew hot, and the lake came alive with all manner of watercraft. The pontoon boat of many heights is our current favorite.

The weekend sunsets, when they eventually arrived (the days are getting long), did not disappoint.
Lake Lucerne
By Sunday, the lake temperature closed in on 70°F.
Lake Lucerne
The water isn't as clear as normal due mostly to tree pollen. The fine, yellow, sneezy dust coats cars, shorelines, and the surface of Lucerne. It's still pretty clear though.
Lake Lucerne
On the weekend, it felt like Summer. Up until then, the cold lake water and frosty mornings reminded us that the ice came off Lucerne just 4 weeks ago. With this early warmth, it could be a sign of a hot Summer, but these things tend to average themselves out. In another sure sign of Summer, the first water show of the year is scheduled for June 7th starting at 6:30PM at Water's Edge. Come to see the new show dock, stay for the show.
