Drizzle and Rain, Flurries and Snow

October 10th through 16th, 2022

Lake Lucerne
Last week started out with pleasant weather. There was golf. There was tennis. There was general hatlessness. That all changed around mid week.
Lake Lucerne
The trees on the south end of Lucerne are looking more post-peak than most.
Lake Lucerne
The trees on the NCC golf course are also looking post peak.
Lake Lucerne
There were some exceptions.
Lake Lucerne
The remaining leaves are falling fast as evidenced by the floating islands in the water hazards.
Lake Lucerne
There are plenty of deer wandering around the fairways, sand traps, and roads. Be careful when driving, lest ye get a very dented bumper.
Lake Lucerne
During the warmer parts of last week, that'd be Monday and Tuesday, we stopped by Lake Wabikon to check out the color. Just to the east of Lucerne and to take a 360 degree picture (not seen here now, but soon!). In the future we really want to get a 360 image from above the island.
Lake Lucerne
As clouds started to thicken over the lake, we knew that the nice weather's time was growing short.
Lake Lucerne
The rain started on Tuesday after sunset.
Lake Lucerne
We got about a half an inch before I took in the gauge (rain then cold will crack the thing. I've lost 2 that way).
Lake Lucerne
I'd estimate that we got over an inch total. Looks like the lake level will not be going down this week.
Lake Lucerne
The below normal cold that bullied its way into the area had the lake steaming every morning and well into most afternoons.
Lake Lucerne
Despite the freezing nights and sunless, damp days, some trees on the east shore are still refusing to de-leaf.
Lake Lucerne
The pontoon crane guy pulled many lifts from the cold water. Rumor is that at the end of last weekend, he was done on Lucerne.
Lake Lucerne
On Friday night the rain kept coming and the temperature fell. The result was cold and white.
Lake Lucerne
No snow, rain, or other cold climate catastrophe was reported within the warmish confines of the Forest County Potawatomi Community Center.
Lake Lucerne
Much of Friday's snow was gone by Sunday. More was forecast on Sunday night (see next week's summary page, blech). Last week marked more than just an inflection point in the march from Fall into Winter. Many piers and lifts are on the shore, but a few are still in the lake. Woe to the poor frozen souls that will be pressed into service to pull them from the icy water. I'm planning on wearing a hat when pushed to pull ours.
