Septemberesque!

August 8th through 14th, 2022

Lake Lucerne
Last week started off nice and summery. Highs were near 80°F and the lake temperature was around 75°F. Then came the weekend with its post Labor Day personality that included highs struggling to get into the 60s°F and the water temperature plummeting to 70°F. There was also rain. Blech.
Lake Lucerne
Before the weekend, there was much sun streaming through the pines and bouncing off the water.
Lake Lucerne
There were a few nice sunsets, too.
Lake Lucerne
The lake level should be up a little due to all the rain at the end of the previous week, but beach parts on the north end remain exposed for the first time in years..
Lake Lucerne
While walking on the north end of west shore drive, a calm bunch of geese pooping up the lawn became a startled bunch of geese slapping up the water.
Lake Lucerne
It turns out geese don't like getting the stink eye from big eagles.
Lake Lucerne
Nobody chipped a ball from the shore into the bucket this week, but one did manage to stick on the green.
Lake Lucerne
Before the weekend when the air was hot-ish, the water was wonderful.
Lake Lucerne
Under the water was even better.
Lake Lucerne
Mrs. Nemo helped collect all those golf balls that did not stick on the raft.
Lake Lucerne
There were more than two.
Lake Lucerne
More than one ball was also chipped towards the greens at the NCC course before the week turned all autumnal. The course is in pretty good shape.
Lake Lucerne
The milkweed pod crop is coming along.
Lake Lucerne
The corn in town at Josh's is even more impressive and much more tasty.
Lake Lucerne
Wednesday's ski show had sun and very rough water.
Lake Lucerne
Sunday's special alumni ski show had clouds and calm water to welcome back retired club members that reprized their rolls as kings and queens of the water.
Lake Lucerne
The cold started late Friday with a little rain.
Lake Lucerne
The rain and mist ended on Sunday. The lake ended up over an inch and a half deeper.
Lake Lucerne
Those that put off lawn mowing before the rain will have to put it off a little while longer.
Lake Lucerne
The rain and cold air sunk the lake temperature. It's still mostly swim-able, but also kind of shivery.
Lake Lucerne
The forecast predicts a bit of a recovery. Some warm will return and the lake temperature may improve. Until then, it's time to break out the hoodies and hot chocolate. A pause in the summer hot is a good time to recover and heal up some of those mid-summer pulls and abrasions. It's clear that many of us will not be at 100% by the return of the hot, but if you're not limping into Fall, you're not trying hard enough.
