The One That Ended With Snow

November 8th through 14th, 2021

Lake Lucerne
Last week started off warm, sunny, and almost spring like. The men were openly regretting pulling ski boats and piers. There was even talk of golf, yet there were no tee times to be had. Then the reality of the calendar manifested itself.
Lake Lucerne
Before the seasonable manifestation began, the lake exhibited some astounding feats of flatness.
Lake Lucerne
An immature eagle was seen haunting the pines and fishing the rocks on the North end of Lucerne just before the weather changed.
Lake Lucerne
It started as rain. By Thursday morning, the lake was over half an inch deeper and the air was noticeably colder.
Lake Lucerne
Then the rain turned all white and fluffy.
Lake Lucerne
There was hope that it would melt when it hit the ground as the flurries did in the last few weeks. Don't ask how that went.
Lake Lucerne
By the time it ended, we had just over 2 inches on the deck.

It was noted that the ancient hieroglyph to lock the final chevron of your local stargate to the bar's gate is a semi-circle with 3 dots on the inside and two parallel lines on the left. It was further noted that, while the bar's basement has not been fully explored and mapped, we are pretty sure that the North end of the lake does not have a stargate, so never mind.

The condition of Knott Lane is a little sloppy and more than a little icy on cold mornings.
Lake Lucerne
The lake temperature was at about 45°F on Sunday. Looking at the forecast, we are confident it will be even colder by the end of next week.
Lake Lucerne
It was more that a bit disorientating how quickly we went from the whispers of warm wind in the pines to the rumbles of plows on the roads as they cleared cold sky flotsam. Having a November ice-in on Lake Lucerne is rare, but if the weather continues to trend colder and still, we could be sledding to Water's Edge for a beer before December. We won't be golfing or skiing, that's for sure.
