Rain and Snow and Squirrels, Oh My!

Last week started off with the lake water ice free and very high. The inches of rain the week before continued to push the lake to highs for the year and last week's precipitation continued that trend. Still don't have a lake temperature reading, but judging from the number of swimmers it would be safe to say it's pretty cold.

Last week started out wet. The lake level should continue to rise.

Streams into the lake are getting close to being able to float a kayak.

The rains have turned lawns into ponds and mowing said lawns into a pipe dream.

The storms have washed much of the Spring pollen from the air. My guess is that local Kleenex sales are down.

High water is washing a few pier or dock parts to the down wind side of the lake.

High water is also washing entire pier sections to the down wind side of the lake. When early season skiing, watch out for these hull denting, toe smushing "Ghost Piers".

And then there was snow. Several mornings last week greeted us with a thin coat of white that would thankfully melt away by the afternoon.

The rain and snow pushed back bucket cleaning. Eventually the weather improved enough to start the event.

It took the sugarmen a few days, two bar rags, and a jug of bleach to get them all ready for next year.

The lake was very flat much of the week, but piles of dirty buckets, very cold water, and no boat kept skiers on the shore.

Squirrels started the week off by abiding the bird feeder accords signed the week before.

Later in the week, not so much.

All the rain and snow has produced a bumper crop of amazingly large (for this time of year) frogs.

No leaves on the trees yet, but it's getting closer.

Evenings have been mostly clear and cool with few campfires dotting the shoreline.

As this is written it's snowing again. Not a lot and it occasionally shades to rain, but enough to keep green out of the trees and golfers from the course. Looking back, past Aprils have been much worse. As the last half of April drags on, we should see less snow, more piers, and hopefully drier lawns that can be cut without fear of drowning.
