At the sunrise of last week, a sheet of ice covered part of Lake Lucerne. A strong wind from the South and some sun disappeared the last of the lake ice in less than 10 hours. Just after ice-out, clouds and calm rolled in along with more than a little ground fog.

Just after the lake opened up, a storm that was composed of waves of on and off rain soaked the saturated ground.

The water from the sky has filled the creeks and streams flowing into the lake in addition to creating lawn puddles of extraordinary magnitude.

Lake Lucerne is at an all time high for the century at 34 inches above the nail. Since 2013, the lake has gone up over 6 and a half feet. That's almost a foot a year. Historically the lake continues to rise until July. You might want to put a block or two under those pier legs this year.

The sun and warm eventually returned and some used the weather to finish up the dishes from sapping.

Others used the weather to start the 2020 water season by dragging piers and lifts into the still icy lake.

Still others just sat around and enjoyed the sun. There might have been some honking and quacking, too.

Small fuzzies that live near the bar seemed to really enjoy the Spring climate and spilled bird seed.

Sunsets have been filled with an adagietto clearing of the sky, a main melody of loon calls, and a loud background track by an orchestra of spring peepers.

By the week's end there was just a hint of green in the hills by a very few trees that may have mistaken a truck backfire for a starting gun. It'll be much greener in another week or two. And more Trillium-y! A few brave souls were reported having joined toe to water or aquaplaned up a short run of flat. With the lake temperature in the low 50's (°F) it'll take a swimsuit fire to get us in. Unless you count the short dips into deep lawn puddles while mowing.
