Buffet of Cold Week

October 28th through November 3rd, 2019

Lake Lucerne
The lake remains high, its crystal clear water rapidly cooling. The ground around the lake is not yet frozen, but it's getting closer. Events last week did not include swimming, skiing, golfing, or Rafto. It's that time of year.
Lake Lucerne
Most, if not all, of the piers and boats are in for the season. Leaves are down. Currently there's no ice on the shore rocks.
Lake Lucerne
There was no skiing or swimming on the ponds in the extreme southwestern part of the area either. The weather was warm enough, the water flat, but we couldn't find a boat.
Lake Lucerne
Perhaps the lack of skiing was for the best. In their effort to prevent eurasian milfoil coming over from Metonga, they've installed a power sprayer the length of the pond to wash invasive weeds from boats, skis, and skiers.
Lake Lucerne
They also run the power washer at night, to clean weeds/skin off any late evening footers.
Lake Lucerne
The trees here in the extreme southwestern corner of the lake area are stubbornly holding onto their foliage.
Lake Lucerne
A little closer to Lake Lucerne, deer are enjoying snow free ground and a bumper crop of acorns.
Lake Lucerne
The acorn munching critters 200 miles south of the lake were not so lucky. We've had the temperatures, but have thus far avoided the blanket of white that covered the southeastern corner of the state.
Lake Lucerne
Hunters are putting finishing touches on their tree stands. If some added any more touches they'd need a building permit.
Lake Lucerne
No tree stands here. We did come across what was first thought to be a prop from a Marvel movie (She's huge! Run! She'll kill us all!) but it turned out just to be some art.
Lake Lucerne
The pumpkins are still a few days away from peak squishy.
Lake Lucerne
Around the lake, there's no snow and plenty of acorns, life is good. There's also no ice on the lake. Unless this 10°F below normal trend in the temperatures changes, it's unlikely we'll be able to make that boast after Thanksgiving. The Knottlane Board Meeting and Pool Party is winding down here with Buffet week now filling the rear view mirror. Buffet week was like the running of the bulls in Pamplona only the bulls were replaced with plates and Pamplona was replaced with the Bellagio. It's gonna take more than 10,000 steps a day to work that off. Looking forward, there's still plenty of good dates left in the now fully open annual Ice-In contest.

-Nemo's not planing any heaping plates of food or any sudden moves for the next few days.
