Summer!

June 17th through 23rd

In a year that saw an aggressive January claim February and parts of March, Summer is sweeter and more appreciated than ever. The lake temperature is getting less shivery, the air temperature is getting hot, and most are getting used to the mosquitoes. Still not getting quite used to the high water levels though. That's going to take more time. Under the North end of the lake, the rocks that made up the foundation of an old marina/dance hall is full of fish and can be boated over. Just a few years ago, the rocks were exposed and the water was too shallow for any good sized fishes. The ancillary ponds of the North end are teaming with tadpoles. Upper Walerko is especially thick with them. We'll need some rain in the next few days or there'll be a smelly repeat of the tragic tadpole die off of '18 The older tadpoles are plentiful and loud. We can't recall a more frog filled Summer ever. The first crop of duck is in. They have been peeping up the North end of the lake for a few days now. Some have had their fill of driveway repair after Winter or a good rain. Looks good. Our favorite was the big truck with the Ben-Hur style lugs. If a hybrid truck/chariot race ever becomes a thing at the Brush Run, we know who we're betting on. The first full ski show of the year had rough, cool water and a light crowd. There were really good pyramids, too. The water got warmer by the weekend as evidenced by the parade of tiny swimmers up and down Potawatomi Trail. The Lake Lucerne Advancement Association had a meeting on Saturday. The main item on the agenda was a vote on the adoption of new bylaws. It passed, but has to pass again at the Labor Day meeting to be adopted. Much of the ski show was in mid-Summer form. We're looking forward to this Wednesday's show to see if they can continue to keep those tips up. With all the warm and flat last week, there was not as much boat traffic as we would have expected. That'll change soon. The lake temperature should push past 70°F during the next few days. Rafto season starts shortly after that.

-Nemo turned off the computer and joined the parade.
