Last week, the week that ended in the official kick-off of Summer, was full of sun, warmer weather, pier placement, and trillium. There are some reports of frost still in the ground, but for the most part Spring is transitioning nicely into Summer.

The lake level is very high. At the start of last week, rainwater from the previous weekend was emptied from the rain gauge. Last week was not as moist.

Creeks and streams flowing into the lake remained high all week. Until the flow slows, look for the lake level to hold onto the gains made since ice-out.

The trillium were tardy this year. What they lacked in promptness, they have made up for with abundance. Patches of 3 leafed whiteness are everywhere.

Gaps in the trillium tsunami are filled with less prolific blossoms. What some lack in abundance, they make up for in red.

In the next few weeks, the trillium will fade. The yellow are well poised to take their place.

Fans of the yellow are chirping them on with tiny voices and full body paint.

Many ferns are still unrolling.

The pontoon crane guy was busy all week unrolling lifts from the shore. Most piers are in, swimmers not so much.

The young and kinetic were bopping around on those unrolled piers all weekend.

The first ski runs of the year were had. Brrr.

In a normal year, the start of Memorial Day weekend marks the end of the trillium. Not this year. The late trillium, like the frost in some parts of the ground, are artifacts of a long and horrific Winter. With all the boat traffic, it's hard to believe that the ice went off Lucerne just over 2 weeks ago. It's easier to believe if you go swimming. The first ski show of the year is currently only 16 days away. Let's hope the water warms some for those poor, shivering skiers.<br><br><br>-Nemo still has a pier to unroll, not a fan of the yellow.
