Snowpocalypse!

February 11th through 17th, 2019

Lake Lucerne
It snowed last week. Not the gentle stuff of Charlie Brown Christmas specials, but the horrific weather that traps Sherpas on Everest. The good news was the lack of icing, that happened 2 weeks ago.
Lake Lucerne
Driveways and paths looked like a very simple white maze after clearing some of the snow.
Lake Lucerne
It took a bit of digging, but the two mounds off the bar's deck turned out to be snowmobiles.
Lake Lucerne
No digging was required to identify some of the larger mounds as pines.
Lake Lucerne
Considering the magnitude of the task, the town did a good job of clearing the roads.

The condition of Knott Lane could be described as impassible. Four wheel drive helps. Not going out works even better. It got cleared more later in the week.
Lake Lucerne
There was no lake ice measurement made last week. Clearing the 18 inches of snow and then drilling through a suspected 20+ inches of ice lost its charm after uncovering drives and paths along the shore. We'll get one next week for sure.
Lake Lucerne
After the big one, daily small snow events lightly salted the rest of the week. None went over an inch. Shoveling could have been done with just a broom.
Lake Lucerne
There's still a coating of ice on the trees from 2 weeks ago.
Lake Lucerne
Strong winds dropped some of the snow from the pines, but not the ice.
Lake Lucerne
The deep snow on the ground pushed wild turkeys up into the trees.

A glance at a calendar suggests that we are running out of Winter. Spending any amount of time outdoors argues the opposite. With the amount of Winter on the ground and another foot or more of Winter forecast to fall next week, there's plenty of time to enjoy skiing, sledding, and staying indoors.

-Nemo is starting to find Winter tiresome.
