Ice-In 2018

Next »

December 3rd through 9th, 2018

At the beginning of last week, half of Lake Lucerne was ice, half was open, and half was a slushy mess. Nobody water skied. There was also some snow. Enough to bring out the plows, but apparently not enough to lower the blades. Tensions escalated between humans and squirrels when largely ornamental and wholly ineffective "Area Denial Implements" were added below bird feeders. The squirrel leaders, their mouths full of sunflower seeds, were unable to comment. On or before Friday, December 7th, Lake Metonga iced over. Lake Lucerne defied all odds as parts of it remained open after the sun set on the 7th. In stark contrast to the Southwest side of the lake, the North end could not boast any liquid water since the start of December. There was water under the 3.5 inches of ice on the Knott Lane end. On Saturday, December 8th the drone was sent up to check for ice-in. We especially like the piney shadow "teeth" the morning sun gives the East shore. The last of the open water fell victim to Winter sometime during the wee hours of December 8th. Congratulations Jenny, Roy, and Victoria (also happy birthday, Victoria) on correctly predicting this year's ice-in date! We'll get your money in the mail just as soon as we slap awake the knottlane accounts payable office chimps. I think we'll get Mrs. Nemo to rouse them this year. They wake kinda grumpy. Last year I had trouble dodging what they were flinging.

-Nemo's filling feeders and taunting squirrels
