The End of Summer

August 27th through September 2nd
Astronomy types and meteorologists may object, but classically, Summer in Northern Wisconsin Starts with Memorial Day Weekend and ends on Labor Day. I don't want to alarm anyone, but we've seen snow in September. Mostly not, though. There's still time for the bold and insane to get as many ski/board/footin' runs in as is humanly possible. Remember to chip the ice off the hull to prevent loss of speed/power. We might have drifted into September, but the hills are still a delightful, deciduous green. Here and there though, are signs of things to come. Below the trees, late season flowers are abundant/colorful. Birds, including that strange fuzzy one, are hitting the feeder harder than we can ever recall. On Saturday, the Lake Lucerne Advancement Association held its Fall Meeting. It did not rain, rules were debated, and Board members elected. We should have been skiing. The Knott Lane Open was held on Saturday at the Nicolet Country Club. Forty Golfers in 10 foursomes played for 9 plastic trophies, 1 cool one, and some golf balls. Our team golfed better than ever coming in at a 5 under par 30, but it was not good enough. One of the last teams eagled 9 to finish at 6 under. The after party at the bar was a full and ruckus affair that spilled out onto the deck and deep into the night. There was supposed to be rain much of the time last week. We got a bit, but mostly we got some nice sunsets. The air still feels warm, but that's more a function of humidy than temperature. As soon as the clouds clear and the pressure rises, light and not so light coats will be the new rule.

-Nemo prefers skiing to tedious debate.
