Still Warm

August 13th through 19th, 2018

The fantastically warm trend of this Summer continued last week. The lake temperature hit 80F and many times in the afternoon the air temperature surpassed that. The lake level continues to fall, but there is much rain in the forecast that will fix that right up. The warm water has encouraged some weed growth on Lake Lucerne, but nothing like the thick mats of green that cover Lake Wabikon. Lake Riley also has a touch of the green. The bog at the base of Sugarbush Hill is going from swampy to piney. The second last ski show of the year, held on Wednesday, had all the pageantry and polish you would expect this late in the season. After the show, the Footstock Dock was disassembled and trailered to Peshtigo Lake for this year's Footstock tournament. On Thursday, we went South of the islands to see the home team rack up 51 points. Thanks Dennis and Jenny! On the weekend, it was time to reassemble the trailered Footstock dock. Getting the dock chunks down the hill was made easier this year by the new stairs. Ta-Da! It's gonna be a good event. The footing is always a hoot, but this year's 3 tier pyramid figure eight demonstration, two 3 tier pyramids doing figure eights until 1 falls, is one of those things you really should not miss. Last week on Lake Lucerne, there were reports of footers getting in practice runs. There's a little bit of fall colors here and there in some maples and birch, but it looks like we have another week or two of full on hazy Summer before the pending equinox makes its presence felt. Until then, double points will be awarded for every contusion, muscle pull, and stress fracture from today until Labor day.

-Nemo currently has 55,654 points this Summer.
