Mostly Sunny

There was some rain last week, but mostly there was not. In addition to sunny, it's been gallons of hot with just a pinch of cool after sunset. It was the kind of weather that turns professional desk drivers into amateur skiers and weekend visitors into year 'round residents.

The northwoods seemed to have trouble settling on a color last week. There was blue.

There was Yellow.

There was orange.

Then all those colors (and more) would come together in the sky at sunset.

Not all is gaudy. You have to look closely, but some went with a more subdued, make-small-fuzzies nervous hue.

As long as the small fuzzies stay outdoors, we step over 'em.

Even when they seem to be plotting something.

If you have not attended any of the ski shows, there are 2 more left at Water's Edge on Wednesdays, August 15th and 22nd.

Footstock is less than 2 weeks away. Grounds prep began last weekend.

Last Thursday, we attended a special presentation on the history of Lake Lucerne. It was noted that the bar is no longer a post office and the tea served there is less earl gray-y and more long island-y.

During the hot ones, it was best to be on the lake, even if just to dog paddle.

There were more skiers, footers, wake borders, knee boarders, and surfers than ever on the lake last week. There were tubers, too (heavy sigh).

Many fires dotted the lake shore as the sun set and the cool rose.

The lake temperature rose to 80°F for the first time this year and the water level is falling. It has dropped to 21.25 inches above the nail. We expect that trend to continue if the rain insists on not falling. With the lake still very high, the declining level should not be a problem any time soon.
