Last week continued this year's theme of hot Summer days. We were a little cooler than the week before; the 90's (°F) were only hit once, but it would be hard to summarize it without the descriptor "hot".

Over the past 2 weeks, Lake Lucerne was in a mini-drought. That ended mostly overnight mid-week. The lake level is still slipping from the record highs of June, but not so much last week.

All the days were warm to hot, most were rain free, and many had flat water added in. Put in a nutshell, it was a great time to be on the lake.

Or under the lake. The water temperature hit 80°F and the bluegills have left the spawning beds. There's a lot less grumpiness on the bottom when diving for golf balls.

Boat traffic remains heavy. We are happy to report less tubing and more skill runs (kneeboards, wake boards, skis, footing).

The boat traffic on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6 PM to 8 PM in front of Waters Edge Pub and Eatery is particularly dense. Plus there's an announcer.

Sunsets have been nothing short of spectacular. The biting bugs that come with sundown are nothing short of horrific. Still, nice sunset though.

Given the warm water, sun, and occasional flatness, the mood in the northwoods last week was joyous. Even that strange fuzzy bird seems a little less surly.

The days have been getting shorter for almost 4 weeks now, but the sunshine does not feel any cooler. The lake level is down about 2 inches from its peak. Given historical trends, we'd expect a drop of about 6 inches before ice-in, but predicting the water level is far more art than science. Predicting the day of the next ski show is much easier. Every Monday and Wednesday evening in July, only on Wednesday evenings in August. Be there, or weep the tears of regret.<br><br><br>-Nemo, doesn't ever want to play the part of a statistic on a government chart.
