After the Rain

June 18th through 24th
After last week's deluge, this happened. The damp and soaked awoke to puffy white clouds framed in blue, reasonable water temperatures, balmy air, and an insanely high lake level. We truly live in a golden age. Just don't leave that gold on the shore. With the lake level so high, any waves will wash it away. Breathtaking sunsets paired nicely with the un-rainy days. The previous week's wet in combination with last week's sun put plants into full flower. Full color, too. The pea pod plants in the second planter on the 6th hole at the NCC golf course don't have any peas yet. We'd give it 3 weeks before golfers can have a green, nutritious snack before teeing off. The six little fuzzballs with legs that infest the 5th and 8th holes don't seem any worse for the wear after the rain. The big, grumpy one that watches over the small, fuzzy ones has attacked many a golfer. We remain un-nipped, but a few times, it was a close thing. No attacks by this golf course dweller were reported. Last Wednesday's ski show included waves, wipe-outs, and one separated shoulder. That, plus the crashing of show boat waves into the sea wall hasn't been seen since the 1970's. Rain is a welcome thing when the lake is down and the grass is dry. The contrapositive is extra true. Calm, warmer (72℉ last we checked) lake water combined with fantastic weather to produce one of the best weeks this year. There was skiing, swimming, diving and dock repair. With the record lake level and ginormous waves, there will be more dock repair in the coming months. When skiing, be sure to watch for piers, docks, or cabins that have been washed from the shore. They can be damaging to a prop or hull. Or skier.

-Nemo seconded the motion.
