ReWinter

December 4th through 10th
At the start of last week, Fall continued to deviate from its carefully scripted wrestling match with Winter. Those of us in the crowd were mostly pleased by Fall's antics. Maybe we cheered too loudly, maybe it was just part of the script, maybe it was something else, but suddenly the referee was distracted. Fall had its back turned, and Winter somehow obtained a folding chair and climbed to the upper turnbuckle. Before Winter got the upper hand, it rained. It was not a gentle shower. The multi inch event held more than a hint of seasonal malevolence as it pounded the bar's metal roof, soaked the lawn, and embiggened the lake's depth. During the rain, Winter hit Fall with a folding chair. While a suddenly diligent ref started the three count, the temperature dropped. We should have pulled the nail pier before a shoreline icing event damaged it. Some fool had to go into the water to lift and salvage it. I can attest that the lake is very cold. We got it up and out just as the bell signaled that the match was over. Knott Lane froze solid and has a delightful (and growing) dusting of snow. The inner monologue that pestered many to give the lawn one last trim has ended. There will be no more mowing this year. The last little bits of open water were enjoyed by very few during the weekend. White smoke wafted from the sap shack on Monday, December 11th. The last strips of open water on the lake froze up by morning. We'd like to thank everybody who picked a date and give special congratulations to Edward, Susy and Tim for winning this year's ice-in contest. Next year's shoreline scrubbing ice-out contest will be up after the 2018 Annual Lake Lucerne Bottle Rocket War and before tree tapping.

-Nemo watched All Star Wrestling as a kid.
