Welcome to Fall

October 2nd through 8th, 2017

Lake Lucerne
Last week started off rather nice. There was some sun. There was some wind. There was much dry. That ended abruptly on Friday evening. It rained. By late Saturday, the lake was two (!) inches deeper, colder, and angry.

Before the weekend, when the lake was happy, late season fishing, diving, and Golfo were enjoyed by many.

Autumn peaked last week. The milkweed pods along Keith Siding Road, just South and West of the lake, are more numerous than I can ever remember. They almost look edible but no (unless you enjoy a mouthful of bitter cotton).

The trees around Lake Lucerne are either in full color or leafless.

Lake Lucerne's rubenesque sister, Metonga, is also surrounded by Fall colors.

Crandon also has its serenely Autumnal on.

The pumpkin carving event at the bar on Saturday started off calmly and subdued. That changed.
Lake Lucerne
It's unclear when the calm was drown in beverage and shenanigans. Records from that period are sketchy at best. The evening was also briefly lit by several Bailey's Comets.
Lake Lucerne
It turned out to be one of the best pumpkin carvings ever. Special mention must be given to the youngest bar visitor ever. Wren, about 96 hours old at the start of her visit, 97 by the end. She made up for her lack of age and carving skills with indescribable cuteness.

Our last boat left the water on Sunday. There's still a few left in the lake, but not many.
Lake Lucerne
After last week, the air is cooler, the trees more colorful, and the lake is deeper. There's still time for some late season swimming and diving before we go from cooler to cold, but that time is shrinking. Best to put on a suit, grit your teeth, and dive in. Try not to scream too much. Check with your doctor before the dive to ensure no coronary events occur as you enter the cold deep.
