Summer's Apogee

It was hot last week. Hot, sunny, and summer. The lake temperature touched 80°F, the fish were active, and the air had the unmistakable hint of aromatic hydrocarbons from all the 2-cycle boat engines.

Among all the weeks since January 1st, last week was the best week to be in/on/under the water.

In addition to warm and wonderful, the lake was flat and ski-a-licious for much of the week.

The ski show at Water's Edge continues to impress.

The crowds that gather on Mondays and Wednesdays to watch the show seem down from their 4th of July week highs.

NCC held its club championship over the weekend. The final men's round finished fine but the women got caught in a freak, highly localized Summer storm and was called after just 12 holes.

Puffy clouds and passing storms cleared out at night leaving behind a star dominated sky with just a hint of a moon.

Every week is a good week to be on the lake, but last week more so than most. Summer Sherpas reached the peak of the season and will now slowly descend down the back side of the solstice to Fall. Let's hope we don't slip into one of those rainy, 50°F high crevasses that have been known to dot August.
