Christmas Week

December 19th through 25th, 2016

Lake Lucerne
According to the calendar, it's officially Winter. Here on the shore of Lake Lucerne, calendars are not needed. Just one look out of a frost coated window will confirm Winter's arrival. Last week, as the polar express moved on, the air temperature recovered a bit. It's still Winter but when coming back inside, counting your digits to be sure none had frozen off is now an optional exercise. Yay!
Lake Lucerne
Last week we had some snow and much wind. The resulting drifts were close to 2 feet deep.
Lake Lucerne
The ice covering the lake is almost 7 inches thick on the North end. There are no snowmobile tracks yet.
Lake Lucerne
Not snow, not hail, it's sleet! In addition to being roundish and white, it's annoyingly painful when colliding with uncovered skin.
Lake Lucerne
The temperature went above freezing giving the North woods a March-y, tree tapping time feel. That didn't last.
Lake Lucerne
A flock of turkeys (wasn't that an 80's new wave band?) has been roaming the sides of West Shore Drive.
Lake Lucerne
The weather has activated the squirrels. They're hopping around the pines being generally crabby.
Lake Lucerne
The court house grounds in Crandon are all lighty.
Lake Lucerne
As are many of the residences in the greater Crandon area.
Lake Lucerne
The most fantastic light show in the North is back this year at the Perry's.
Lake Lucerne
This may be the last year for this display, so see 'em while you can..
Lake Lucerne
The lake is still ice covered except for the holes punched through by the fishermen and those holes close up after a couple of hours. The warmer weather followed by the coming seasonably cold air will exorcise the slush layer that cursed the lake all last week. The 26th Annual Lake Lucerne Bottle Rocket War is less than 5 weeks away. Bring a hat.

-Nemo wishes everyone a very Merry Christmas!
