The lake was completely open at the start of last week, the air had a tinge of Fall, and there was hope that Winter wouldn't be that bad.
Early in the week, the lake temperature dropped to 40°F. It got colder as the days progressed.
By mid-week, it grew colder and ice began to form in the northeastern corner of the lake.
Thursday was the last day the shore was mostly ice free.
Mostly ice free. Some strange ice formations grew on shore detritus.
The snow grew deeper and more drift-y as the days passed.
By the weekend, lake ice was pushing out over 100 feet from the shore and growing.
Maple Syruping season is but 3 months away. Some of the cooker wood was covered with tarps to try to keep it dry-ish.
The Knott Lane road conditions deteriorated all week. If you are coming up next week, bring boots. Warm boots.
Meanwhile, back at the bar, Mixologists are combining elixirs and creating extraordinary shots and cocktails. Some with tequila. Some with sprinkles. And some with both!
By the end of the week, there was no doubt. Winter was here. Lawns were snow covered, roads were icy, and everything was frozen 'cept for a large, but shrinking, chunk of lake. Lake Wabikon has refroze. Lake Metonga was mostly ice covered before Sunday's kickoff. Lake Lucerne's time to get its ice on will be coming sooner rather than later.
-Nemo occasionally holds the ice, but never the sprinkles.
