A line was crossed in the past 7 days. The week started off mild for this time of year. The lake had no ice, grass was visible, and there was talk of golf.
The golf course has been in better shape. There was a dusting of snow in some roughs, no flags, and frozen greens. The air was a little cool, too. No one ended up golfing.
Starting Tuesday night, the lake area got the first significant snow of the season. By Wednesday evening, a wet, heavy 4 inch thick blanket of white covered the shore
In one day, the contusion level for those brave enough to walk on Knott Lane went from green past yellow to red.
The lake level is right at the nail. With all the water flowing into the lake, it will surely be going up before ice-in. Huzzah!
As of Sunday, November 27th, Lake Lucerne's water temperature is at 46°F. Not very swimmable, but not making ice either.
Last week, in addition to the demise of Peter the Pumpkin, the Silver Lake Inn (the old Cheney's) burned up. Boo! The lake is not freezing over anytime soon. If I were allowed an entry into this year's ice-in contest, dates two or three weeks out would be my choice, but you never know. A big, brutal cold snap could ice the lake over in just a few days.
-Nemo's not swimming this week.
