Post Peakpocalypse

October 10th through 16th, 2016

Lake Lucerne
Last week there was some sun, rain, flat water, and angry seas. All these elements have been present in July, but let there be no illusions. Last week, there was no Summer. Summer is over. A majority of the leaves are on the ground, the lake temperture dropped below 60°F, mosquitoes are rare, and Forest County Bambis are gettin' nervous.

As if to underscore the passing of Summer, despite a new pair of glasses, nobody skied. Judging from the lack of screams in the air, there was not much swimming either.

The lake did get a drop or three of rain last week. The lake level is currently just below the nail, but more rain is coming.

The wet, cool weather has produced a second crop of ink caps. So if you like ink caps, yay.

This is not the first time we've spotted this guy on a power pole. Not sure if it likes the branchlessness or has the creosote monkey on its back.

The Asian Lady Beetles are back. They look like ladybugs but they bite. Hard. Ouch.
Lake Lucerne
Peak may be over, but there's plenty of color left in the maples.

Most boat lifts have been pulled out of the lake. Injuries during this year's lift dragging have been pleasantly light. There have been no reports of casts, maimings, or bass attacks.

Lake Metonga's "Weeds and Walleye" fund raiser was held last Saturday in the bingo hall of the Mole Lake casino. It was pretty fun.

Living in a post peakpocalyptic northwoods world takes some getting used to. Unlike swimming in 59°F lake water. You never get used to that. Some are easy to adapt to. Like no mosquitoes. Some take more effort to sidle up to. Like the packs of atvs that rumple over the fallen leaves in search for...something. Not sure if all the quad monkeys sport mohawks under their helmets and mayhem in their veins, but that's what we hear.

-Nemo, tasted more than once by the asian lady beetle.
