September 19th through 25th, 2016

There were days last week when the sky was blue. There were days last week when the sky was gray. There were more of the latter. Over 1.5 inches of rain fattened up the lake for Fall. The ground is very saturated, so the watershed pushed the lake level up more than is usual. Would it be enough to move the lake level over the nail? Yes! The nail is currently topped with a half an inch of fresh lake. It's been over 11 years since we've enjoyed a lake measurement such as this. Huzzah! Trenching for the gas line continues on Knott Lane. All the rain has not helped. The rain has helped bring in a fine mushroom crop. This guy eyed the mushroom patch, but did not partake in a fungus feast. Nor did we. Once a year, we unpack the first pair of water skis our family ever bought and let them play. They still work on the 69°F degree water. The NCC golf course is in the best shape of the year (when it's not raining). The time has come to celebrate the Summer that was and accept the Fall that is. Festivities can include a fine cigar, cold beer, and a final slalom run. Extra points are awarded if all three are done at the same time. The College of Loons did not expect the lake to rise above the nail this year. It took over 4 inches of September rain in under 2 weeks to prove them wrong. For those keeping score at home, Lake Lucerne has come up almost four feet in the last 3 years. Yay!

-Nemo: Mushroom connoisseur, point monger.
