Labor Day Eve Week

August 29th through September 4th
On most mornings last week, steam was rising from the lake. Lake Lucerne's water temperature was not rising. It's still above 70 F, but it's becoming a close thing. Lucerne was not the only lake North of Hwy 64 that was steaming. Most every body of water and some swamps were topped with a cottony mist. The sun would eventually get high enough to burn off the fog, leaving only a blue sky and a flat lake surface. That works for us. In addition to the morning mists and the falling lake temperature, there are other signs that Fall is coming. While most trees are monochromatic (specifically, green), some stressed ones are showing off early. There was quite a shindig in Crandon starting last Friday. The Labor Day Weekend Brushrun was kicked off with a parade down Main Street. There were a few marching bands. And a few vehicles that defied description. The best was a Mad Max-Flintstones mashup that wobbled a bit as it cruised by on mostly roundish wheels. The Knott Lane Open golf outing was held on Labor Day Sunday. Ten teams enjoyed the sunshine and one team won with a 2 under par. Close to one hundred attended the award ceremony and after party at the bar. Thanks to everyone for making this year's open one of the best ever! It's currently raining. Hard. If it keeps coming down at this rate, our next boat will not be measured in feet, but in cubits. The College of Loons did not think that the lake would rise to the nail this year. They could be wrong. We'll be sure to include a lake level measurement next week, it's raining too hard to get one today.

-Nemo's not taking two mosquitoes on the new ark.
