The weather continues to be tropical. Last week sustained the trend of hot and sticky with periods of Lake Lucerne raising rain. Last week's rain came in two events. An overcast Thursday poured about an inch of water onto the northwoods and a sunny/cloudy Sunday was accented with short, heavy rain storms that added another inch. By sunset on Sunday, the lake was almost two inches deeper. The water above the thermocline is holding at 78 F. In the past, when the lake has been this warm for this long, we've seen a few algae blooms. Not this year. The water this Summer remains crystal clear and full of fish. Fish fry kits (some assembly required) were finning around the cribs all week. The ski show at Water's Edge just gets better and better. There's only two left (8/17, 8/24 at 6:30 PM) before Footstock. See you there! On Friday we were lucky enough to toddle a few miles South to watch the home team take on some single A outfit from Cleveland. The "North Pole"! We were always under the impression that there would be a jolly fat man, elves, and reindeer here. There were more than a few fat men, and most were jolly, but no elves or Rudolph. Just concrete, green, and gold. There is so much to love about Lambeau Field. The history, the atmosphere, the touchdown, the safeties, and the Monty Pythonesque jumbotron first down animation. Thanks again, team Jennis! On Saturday morning at 9:00 AM, the annual O'Keefe Triathlon began. The winner swam across the lake, about 1800 feet, in under seven minutes! The "Back to School" moon is getting fuller and the corresponding boat traffic on the lake is getting lighter. The boat traffic on Devils Lake also seems light. The shadows of clouds rode the trees tops to the east Saturday evening. The sky cleared by sunset just in time to catch the extreme tail end of the Perseid Meteor shower. We saw two. One of the two might have been a firefly. The lake's tubers, which had metastasized to the North end and the bays on the east in July, are in full remission! The bare footed practicing for Footstock and skiers that like less lumpy water will be pleased. The warm that has defined this August continued last week. On Saturday a bigger, dead bass floated onto the shore of Knott Lane. As MrsNemo went to remove it, an eagle passed about 7 feet overhead and voiced its displeasure at having its breakfast touched. Last we saw, the eagle was perched nearby watching Corpsey the fish slowly floating to the east. A short time later, the eagle and the fish were gone. That and, while SCUBA diving, a crib ate my snorkel. <br><br><br>-Nemo predicts 19 and 0.
